The 'Disney Channel Games' Were My Olympics + How They Ended
On Disney Channel's Olympic games, the peak of 2008, and the iconic "Send It On"
I believe I grew up during the peak of Disney Channel.
I would wake up and watch Stanley or JoJo’s Circus before going to school. It was non-stop That’s So Raven, Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody when I got home. I always knew I stayed up too late if American Dragon: Jake Long re-runs or The Replacements came on TV. There’s not a second of my childhood that I don’t remember Disney Channel being a part of. Whether it be pool parties to celebrate High School Musical 2’s release or running to the nearest TV the second I heard “Send It On” (You know the one!) playing, I was obsessed — and still am, let me be honest — with that era of Disney Channel.
It’s not unusual that the Summer Olympics stir up nostalgia for that time.
More specifically, it makes me miss the Disney Channel Games. They may have only lasted for a handful of episodes across the summers of 2006, 2007, and 2008, but I vividly remember them. I remember wearing a green rubber bracelet to school to make sure my friends knew I was Team Green because Joe Jonas was on that team. I remember cheering for my favorite Disney Channel stars as if those games had the same impact as the Olympics. Because, to me, they did.
